Painted Trucks

Afghans are very proud people and none are more proud than the truck drivers. Each truck is a work of art. Panels of hand painted pictures adorn most of the flat space. In the picture below there is mosque over the cab, a lion to the right. Borders of stylized flowers separate the panels. Even the inside of the truck door is decorated. Notice the hood has been removed and replace with a metal scroll work. One would think this would allow the engine to be covered with dust.

The driver's arm is visible in the picture and notice that he wears a large watch. A watch was a great status symbol.
