I attended a reunion many, many years ago, and I certainly
look forward to our 50th. If I may, I wish to thank each one in the Class of
'56 who has shared his/her time and talents to organize this reunion. From
information gathered to date, it looks to be an exciting one.

After graduating from Atherton, I attended the University of
Louisville and received a B.S. degree from the College of Business. Then I
joined the work force and met my husband, Reeves, at IBM. Reeves is a native of
Roanoke, Virginia, and was transferred to the Louisville sales office in 1962.
In 1965, I resigned my position at IBM and was a
stay-at-home mom with our two children. Much later I returned to work and for
several years was employed at U of L in continuing education serving as manager
of professional development for the College of Business. I retired to have more
time with family and grandchildren.
Now that Reeves and I are both
retired we spend most of our time with grandchildren, church activities, and
some travel. We are especially interested in our class mission project in
Belize. Although Ive lived in Louisville all of my life, I didnt
ever see many AHS classmates and so serving on the reunion committee has been
fun. I cant wait to reunite with more AHS friends.

Stewart, Alan
Owensboro, Ky. Deceased. 5-14-2004 |
I graduated from Colgate University in 1960 with a
BA-Economics and went on to Syracuse University, where I received an MBS. The
next 25 years were spent as a corporate nomad ending up as a Vice
President-Compensation & Benefits at USF&G Insurance. Ultimately,
finding myself on the wrong side of a merger and at the ripe old age of 45, I
decided to go into business for myself and have spent the last 15 years selling
group life, & health insurance and retirement plans to small companies in
the Philadelphia, PA area.
I have 3 children from my 1st marriage: a
daughter, Kearsley (no children) who is a Professor-Anthropology at
Northwestern University, an older son, RB ( one daughter), who is a
Psychotherapist in Fort Collins, CO and a younger son, David (two daughters)
with Fidelity Investment in Japan.
My present wife, Muffet, and I will
be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this summer. Last Spring we bought
a 200-year-old farmhouse and barn in Downeast Maine, that I am in the process
of totally renovating while Muffet, finishes her career in Philadelphia. In the
meantime, when the dust settles (literally), I will restart my insurance
business up here ( I don't think I could ever fully retire. ), when I am not
fishing, canoeing, golfing or doing other Maine type things.

After graduation, I went to Vanderbilt University along with
several classmates. I graduated in 1960 with a Bachelors in Chemical
Engineering and headed for California as an Ensign in the Navy. I was assigned
to the Gunnery and Weapons department on the U.S.S. Lofberg (DD 759).
In San Diego, our home port, I met my wife, Nancy, who was originally
from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, (who also has her 50th reunion this year.) Upon
completion of my three year obligation, we packed up and moved to Midland,
Michigan, where I worked at Dow Chemical in the Saran resin production
group.
After seven years in Michigan, we were eager to get back to
Southern California, because of the warm winters. The four of us (by now, we
had a son and daughter), settled in Huntington Beach soon after the 6.7 point
San Fernando (Sylmar) earthquake in 1971. I worked for plastic resins plants
and some of them were sold and moved out of California. We stayed and I worked
at companies which manufacture composites and materials for the Aerospace and
airplane business. Fortunately for us, all of the companies were within a
reasonable commuting distance from Huntington Beach. I was working at CYTEC
Industries in Orange until I retired in 2003.
I stayed active in the
Navy Reserve, and in 1981, earned a Navy Retirement. Both of our children
graduated from college close to home and have both married. We have 4
grandchildren, 3 boys and 1 girl, and both families live within 15 miles from
the homestead.
Since I retired, I just putter around the house. Among
my treasures, I have a 10,000+ record album collection, (my favorites are Rock
and Roll of the 50s and 60s), and a sizeable beer can collection
(most opened from the bottom). I do a little part time Mystery Shopping at
restaurants, movie trailers, oil changes, and grocery stores. I hope to see you
all at the reunion.

EMORY STRAUS LOGAN I married Ralph Logan in 1957 while we
were students at the U of K. I graduated with a BS in Chemistry from the U of
L. I worked in medical research at the U of L Medical School while working on a
PhD in Physiology and Biochemistry.
Ralph graduated from Speed in Civil
Engineering and we started moving. I never finished my PhD but got a MS in
Political Science from the U of L when I returned to Louisville in 1973. At the
time I was working as Director of Volunteers for Jefferson Co., a political
job.
I have three married daughters and three grandchildren (two
girls and a boy). I moved to Hilton Head in 1980 and started working for Sea

working at home for him. He still does roadwork and consults part time. I
volunteer at the computer club to help members. I am on the Communication

I've had three great careers: I worked for Blue Cross and
Blue Shield of Kentucky for almost 24 years. My Blue Cross career gave me many
opportunities; I served that company as sales representative, Director and Vice
President of Professional Relations and Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
In 1985 I moved to Humana and stayed there 11 years and served them as Vice
President of Sales and Marketing. In 1996 I started Stroud & Associates.
I'm in business with daughter Dana Kirwan and son Kent. Retirement is not in my
plans. One of my passions is being able to go to work every day, I actually
look forward to Mondays.
My 3rd great passion (after family and work)
is being able to enjoy life and I've found so many ways to enjoy myself. Carol
and I are fortunate to be in very good health. Carol introduced me to travel; I
never thought I'd be a very good at it but she's got me hooked. Another source
of great enjoyment is our lake house that we've had for 10 years. It sits on 3
½ acres overlooking the mouth of Lilly Creek on beautiful Lake
Cumberland. We are there every other weekend, year around. This area offers us
so many opportunities; the hills are covered with wildflowers, wildlife is
abundant, boating, fishing and much more.
 |
Since my teens, I've enjoyed fishing. Now,
in addition to fishing Lake Cumberland, a group of good friends go to Alaska
every year for salmon and halibut fishing. Alaska is a great place to visit and
Carol is going with me this August
Here I am with my world record Red
Banded Rockfish (Sebastes babcoci), 9lb, 12 oz caught 7-11-99 at Whalers Cove,
Alaska.
I've done a poor job of keeping up with all the friendships I
made at AHS and look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. Thanks very
much for your excellent work on our ahs56 website, it is terriffic. |
I find it almost impossible to believe that we graduated
from High School fifty years ago - that's just not possible! ! The years -
where have they flown? What I'm finding even more impossible is to try to sum
up the last fifty years of my life in a paragraph or two. WOW - what an
assignment! Well, here goes - -
Following graduation. I worked for six
months prior to enrolling at the University of Louisville. I loved U of L. I
made cheerleader and so did Bobbie (my best friend). AND I met the love of my
life. Jerry. You guessed it - he was a football player and I was a cheerleader
- how romantic! The romance lasted for 33 years of marriage producing four
beautiful children (two girls and two boys) and eleven absolutely perfect
grandchildren and. you won' t believe this, we now have a beautiful three month
old great -grandson!! Sometimes, unfortunately, all good things come to an end
- as did our marriage after 33 years. BUT, the good news - we are still best
friends and still share so much of our family together.
After we were
married. Jerry and I moved to Indiana where he finished his degree at Indiana
State and began a successful coaching career, which took us to several cities
in Indiana. I finished my degree in business at IUPUI while our four children
were in grade school. Shortly after graduation, I went to work in Human
Resources at Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis. After five years, I moved on
to be the Director of Environmental Services at Community Hospital East in
Indianapolis. Shortly after that I took over the directorship of the same
department at Community Hospital South and then Community Hospital North. So,
in summary, I'm the Network Director of Environmental Services at the Community
Health Network (primarily the three Indianapolis Hospitals) and have been there
for 24 years. I love my job and don't have any plans to retire soon.
| What do I like to do - I love to travel and I love to be in
the sun! So, you have it, I take trips where I get the best tan I can! I love
seeing all my grandchildren in the various sports activities they are always
involved in. I was the same when our kids were involved in everything! I guess
- once a cheerleader - always a cheerleader!!! I used to like to play golf and
plan on starting that again this year. On the quieter side of things, I love to
play cards - especially bridge. I also like to read. |
 |
Looks like I went over the required paragraphs but it's been
great filling you in on my life - I love reading about you and what you have
done since we graduated. I hope I have a chance to talk and see everyone at our
Reunion. Until then - Bobbie
