After graduation I worked a year, then entered Georgetown
College. After graduation in '61, I, along with several other Atherton
classmates spent a year on active duty with the 100th Division (Army) at Ft.
Chaffee, Arkansas. After the Army I worked for Texaco, Inc for thirteen years,
then moved to Texas and worked for Texas Instruments in Human Resources for
twenty years, traveling the US.
I left my business
career in 1997 to care for my dear wife, Nita, until her
death on December 28, 2005. We were married almost 40 years.
I am fortunate to have my daughter, son-in-law, and four
grandchildren living near me.
I also do volunteer work at the local hospitals, and particularly
the VA hospital in Temple, TX. |

I live in Belton, TX, which is near I-35 between Waco and
Austin. My door is always open, and anyone who might come
through the area is welcome. I wish all of my classmates a healthy and safe journey through
life.

Blue Louisville, KY |
After AHS I went to Transylvania University for three years
and then to Spencerian Business College. I met Gordon Blue from New York State
and we married in June 1962. GE brought him to KY where he worked until
retirement. We have lived in Louisville all of our 43 years of
marriage.
I worked for several doctors until I got pregnant in
September of 1965. I became a full time Mother and stayed home to raise kids, a
daughter Michele and a son, Tracy. When Michele went to Eastern KY University,
I went back to work.
I went to work for a Regional Minister and worked
for him for thirteen years before retiring.
|
 |
 |
Michele and Tracy each have two children. They range from 14
to 6 years of age. We enjoy them very much.
I also love to bowl, play
bridge, travel and visit the sick and shut-ins of our church. Hawaii is my
favorite place in all the world.
I am looking forward to the reunion. I
also appreciate all the hard work the Committee has done to put this together.
Thanks! Bette Hope Tichenor Blue |

Ray
Tichenor Bloomington, IN Deceased August 2011 |
Published
in The Courier-Journal on August 10, 2011
TICHENOR, RAYMOND HOWARD, 73, passed away
at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Wednesday,
August 3, 2011.
He leaves behind a solid legacy of business leadership, civic
responsibility and philanthropic generosity.
Born in St. Louis, MO, on November 18, 1937 and raised in
Louisville, KY, Ray made Bloomington his home for over 50 years.
He attended Atherton High School in Louisville and
Indiana University before he and his late brother Jack
Tichenor, co-founded T.I.S. Group, in 1962.
In addition to his 49 years of service to T.I.S., Ray served
numerous boards, committees and organizations including Sertoma,
Society of Friends of Music, National Association of College
Stores, Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of
Bloomington and Monroe County, Bloomington Country Club,
Volunteers in Medicine and Morris Innovative Research.
Together, he and his late wife, Marcie, established the Jack D.
Tichenor Scholarship for Indiana University Athletics, the
T.I.S.-Tichenor Friends of Music Scholarship and the Ray and
Marcie Tichenor Scholarship for Ivy Tech. They also established
funds to support The Community Foundation of Bloomington and
Monroe County, WonderLab and St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
In recent years Ray was passionate about and supportive of the
work of the Bloomington Hospital Foundation including Hospice
House and The Children's Therapy Clinic.
Ray was a diehard fan of Indiana University Basketball and
Football and he cherished working in his yard. But most of all,
he loved his family, friends and colleagues who kept him
grounded and connected to what mattered most. "....From everyone
whom has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the
one whom has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary
Tichenor, his brother, Jack Tichenor and his beloved wife,
Marcie.
Ray is survived by his children, Tim (Terri) Tichenor, Jon
(Marta) Tichenor and Beth (Kevin) Theile, all of Bloomington;
and eight grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Tessa, Bailey and
Griffin Tichenor and Kendall, Madison and Regan Theile. Ray is
also survived by his brothers, Thomas Tichenor of Louisville, KY
and Robert Tichenor of Champaign, IL.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Mark's United
Methodist Church on Thursday, August 11th at 3 p.m. with family
receiving visitors from noon to 2:30.
Sympathy may be expressed through memorial contributions to the
Tichenor Funds at either the Community Foundation of
Bloomington, 101 W. Kirkwood, Suite 321, Bloomington, IN 47404
or the Bloomington Hospital Foundation, 405 N. Rogers St.,
Bloomington, IN 47404.

| Ray Tichenor arrived at Indiana University in 1956. In 1962,
he joined forces with his eldest brother Jack to begin a used college textbook
business. Following Jacks untimely death in 1980, Ray took full
leadership of the growing company. Leading up to his
pseudo-retirement in 2004, the company grew from two to nearly 500
employees operating four collegiate bookstores, an international used textbook
company, a custom publishing and printing business, a music catalog and retail
shop and a collegiate sportswear operation with 12 retail storefronts in four
states. Ray has served the local Bloomington community on committees
and boards for organizations including Stonebelt, Rotary, the Community
Foundation of Bloomington, the Society of the Friends of Music and the
Bloomington Country Club. |
 |
Ray and Marcie, his wife of 43 years, have
three children (Tim, Jon and Beth), all of whom hold key positions in the
family business. They also have eight busy grandchildren. They enjoy
entertaining in their home, working in the yard (actually, only Ray works in
the yard), dining out and traveling, most recently to Costa Rica, Alaska,
Bermuda and Hawaii.

Lenore, Piranah,
and local guide |
After graduating from Atherton, I attended Indiana University
on a music scholarship, serving as music librarian for the band department and
playing flute in various university bands and orchestras. I switched to
elementary education and taught 5th and 6th grades in New Albany and Hammond,
Indiana where I met my husband, electrical engineer Duane Hibbs.
We
have lived in Ogden Dunes in the middle of the beautiful Indiana Dunes National
Lakeshore area for 44 years in a house, which I designed. I helped found
Sandpiper Preschool in our town and taught for several years.
|
I kept up with my flute playing, teaching high school flute
students and being principal flutist with the Northwest Indiana Symphony for 12
years, until the rehearsal and concert schedule conflicted with raising four
children. I still play flute solos regularly as "resident flutist" with our
community church.
All four children graduated from Purdue -- 3
engineers and one math/computer science major and three have advanced degrees.
In 1976 I began painting (mostly watercolors) and photography as a creative
outlet. Since then I have participated in many art fairs and have my work in
numerous galleries and businesses.
Both Duane and I have been very
extremely active in church and community groups, to the point of exhaustion
sometimes. I served as Deacon, Elder, president of the corporation, teacher,
and choir member in our community church, as well as landscaper/gardener for 7
years with the gardens being featured on the community Garden Walk twice.
|
 |
 |
My home garden has also been featured on the Garden Walk. I
did most of the interior layout and design for the church renovation and
expansion.
One of my great joys is cooking for large groups of people
and developing recipes. I regularly did volunteer catering for the art gallery
luncheons, and charity cocktail parties.
|
I have previously enjoyed organizing school fun fairs and
community arts and crafts bazaars, and have served on symphony and art gallery
boards, and the state school gifted and talented committee.
Now I am
just trying to relax and enjoy life -- balancing retirement, health, minimal
community involvement, family get-togethers (4 adult kids with spouses and 12
grandchildren), gardening our own yard, and travel.
My big escapes have
involved a summer in Europe, camping with the family, and cruises to Alaska,
Tahiti, Costa Rica, the Darien Jungle of Panama, the Mediterranean, the
Caribbean Islands, and the Amazon. It is marvelous to pack a suitcase and live
in a tiny ship cabin with no responsibilities other than sleeping, eating,
swimming with dolphins (photo), and fishing for piranha (photo with local
guide)!
