I remember when my parents returned to their hometown for their 50th high school reunions, and thought How Neat! It’s scary to think that is us! I married Charley, and attended UK, after AHS graduation. We left Lexington in 1958 with 2 babies, and his diploma. Charley became part of my family’s business, Wehr Constructors, Inc. In 1962, our 3rd daughter arrived. We lived, worked, and raised our family in Louisville. Charley and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary, this year. In 1985, we moved to Ft. Myers, Fla. We enjoyed golf, sun, and a life of leisure. We had our retirement fun end in 1993, as the health of both our parents, declined. Moving back to Louisville, we both cared for our Moms, until their recent deaths (2004 and 2005). Our 3 daughters married, and have given us the gift of 5 grandchildren (2 girls and 3 boys). Two daughters are in Louisville, and one is in Naperville, Il. LWP2006

What a good 50 years this has been. I have a wonderful husband, Don. I have three great children, Neil 46, Fred 44 and Jill 41. They have given me 5 “perfect” grandchildren who I see as often as I can and enjoy every minute of our time together. I worked selling real estate for 25 years and Don and I owned the W.K. Stewart Bookstore in Holiday Manor for 15 years.

Since our retirement we have done as much traveling as possible. We take trips to see the grandchildren, cruising to many exciting places, or just getting in the car for an interesting destination. I spend my time at home in my garden, cooking, volunteering, tinkering at my workbench and playing cards. I have worked on this reunion and most of the past ones. They have all been special, but this 50th will outshine them all.

Hubert celebrates his 69th year with a parachute jump in 2007
We jumped from about 10000 feet , our free fall lasted 36 seconds " Free Falling" 6400 feet and opening at 3600 feet. We did everything possible to stay within the guidelines set by the Parachute Club of America for a Tandem jump.

This had to rank way up there on my list of experiences.

HW November 2007

After leaving AHS I went to the University of Kentucky for three years, became president of my college fraternity in my junior year. It was fun but I wasted a lot of educational opportunity. At the end of my junior year, I joined the U.S. Army Reserve. Almost immediately the unit was activated and we spent a year at Ft Chaffee Arkansas (where I perfected my Sky Diving skills doing over 110 free fall jumps).

Upon return I attended the University of Louisville finishing up a year later. In 1963 I started dating the mother of our three children, Patricia Johnston of Male High School. We married in 1965 and were together until cigarettes and the disease they cause took her from us in 1991. Our progeny… two boys and the daughter who wrapped me around her little finger, just like her son has done in the last three years. During this period I was employed in the insurance and automobile industries, which made the many times I was activated in the Army less painful. I retired from the U.S Army Reserve in 1993 with 34 years of service.

Hubert and Mary in Cusco.
In 1995 I met my current love Mary. We married in 2000 and just as my first marriage was mostly (except the dying part) wonderful this marriage has been really amazing. Mary took up SCUBA, a sport I have enjoyed since I was 18 or so and we have been to more Caribbean Islands than I can count, as well as Tahiti, Bora Bora and other islands in French Polynesia as well as the Galapagos and Hawaii.

Whenever we are not out of the country SCUBA diving or on an expedition (the last one took us to Machu Pichu on "The Trail of the Incas" in Peru) Mary and I like to load up the motor home and have traveled to or through 46 of the 48 contiguous states. By the time this is read Mary and I will have been on an expedition to interact with the Whales in the Sea of Cortez (Feb 2006). I am looking forward to seeing everyone again at the Reunion… I hear there are going to be some 67 year old "hotties" in attendance.

In the fall of 1956, I started at the University of Kentucky graduating in 1960 with a French major and Spanish minor. In the summer of 1958 I went to France as part of an exchange group. After graduating, I attended the Middlebury College French School study abroad program, living and studying in Paris for the year. With an MA in French I got a job teaching French and Spanish at the University of KY Southeast Center. It was quite a change, but a wonderful experience with incomparable colleagues.
Two years, I was ready to move on. That summer my grandmother and I went to visit our family then living in Japan... a Japan very different from the one shown in Lost in Translation.

On my return from Japan, my sister and I headed to Murray State College where I taught French, spent a couple summers working in Belgium, met and married Ken Lehman. When Ken took a job in Delaware, we moved to Newark with my youngest sister. While there we had three daughters; I taught swimming classes to infants and preschoolers, earned an M.A. in English and worked part time at the University of Delaware Writing Center. After 25 years I retired from the Writing Center, but continue to tutor at the English Language Institute.

About 1980 we moved to Maryland where we planted grapes and Christmas trees. Last year our Christmas tree farm was retired. We have a sailboat, which we sail on the Chesapeake Bay, and have enjoyed traveling to Spain, France, Nova Scotia and of course, Kentucky. We are fortunate that our daughters all live close enough to spend holidays and other occasions with us. All in all it's been a mighty good life.

After high school, I worked, got married in 1957 and had 3 sons. I returned to school at Miami university and earned an associate degree in nursing in 1982. I have worked in Pediatrics, I.C.U., and Oncology. In 1984 I began working for an Oral Surgeon as an anesthesia assistant. While I am semi-retired, I do work on an as-needed basis for the Oral Surgery group. ( I do enjoy this work very much). I married Carl(2 sons) in 1987, and between us we have 12 grandchildren! I could go on and on about my sons, their wives and children, but needless to say I am very proud of them. My household now consists of my husband and me, and 2 dogs. In my spare time, I do volunteer work, play bridge, and go to plays. I am actually more busy than ever now.
