A Bird Watcher Visits Midway Atoll

Midway Atoll to Re-open in 2008

Midway Atoll famous for the WWII Battle of Midway is now a National Wildlife Refuge and you can visit. Come see the Goony Birds (Albatross), Red-tailed Tropicbird, Great Frigatebird, White Terns, Bristle-thighed Curlew, Pacific Golden Plover, endangered Monk Seals, Spinner Dolphins, and Green Sea Turtles. You can see the bunkers where in June of 1943 our boys waited for their war to start, scuba dive, try your hand at sport fishing (catch and release), or just enjoy a beautiful deserted beach. In April of 2001, I was one of the lucky ones to visit as a participant in an Oceanic Society trip. This site is a photo album from that visit. Emmalee Tarry
