The Tambopata Jacamars Bird Club is a group of Peruvian birders who live and work in Puerto Maldonado, Peru. Puerto Maldonado is in the Amazonia region of Peru on the eastern side of the Andes Mountains near the borders with Brazil and Bolivia. Nearby are the great reserves of Tambopata and Manu. Most tourists arrive in Puerto by air from Cuzco as there is only a very poorly maintained highway. This is about to change with the coming of the Transoceanic Highway from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean passing through Puerto Maldonado. The completion of the highway will greatly effect the birds of the area and the lives of the people who live there.
