Great morning birdwatching in Pastora

(Introducing the new name)

Tambopata Jacamar’s Bird Club

Puerto Maldonado, 11-03-07

By: Richard Amable

Pastora is a small community along The Madre de Dios river three Km from the city of Puerto Maldonado. Pastora is one of the most important ports in the area for gold mining, agriculture and logging activity. When visiting the community you will easily find food and water. You will only find secondary forest with a very interesting ecological niche; as a result you will see some very specific species. For example, 2 interesting and rare Jacamar’s from the region White-throated Jacamar and the Purus Jacamar.

Following the road along the Madre de Dios river we found a perennial stream crossing under the road. The water was black indicating that there was a palm swamp upstream. Perennial streams are the habitat for the Silvered Antbird.

A super thanks to the team, “Tambopata Jacamar’s Bird Club” for sharing your passion during this bird observation.
