Navigation

A web site with good navigation always lets the user know three things:
  • Where Am I?
  • Where Have I Been?
  • Where Can I Go From Here?

This site uses a small blue navigation bar at the top of each page. For example, at the top of this page you see this line.

Path - Page specific Persistent Links
Help Using This Site | Navigation Search | Help | Comments | Site Map

The links on the left side of the navigation bar change from page to page. They record your path to the page. The items on the right side of the small navigation bar are the same on all pages. Search allows you to find all the pages that contain a word you enter.Help opens the first page of this tutorial. Comments allows you to send mail to the webmaster. Site map helps you search the book for specific information.as described below.

Where Am I?
The page name of the current page will always be the last in the page path. It answers the question "Where Am I". You are reading "Navigation".

Where Have I Been?
The page names to the left of the current page in the small navigation bar record your path to the page. To return to a previous page click on the page name. To go back to the starting page of the tutorial click on Help Using This Site.

Where Can I Go From Here?
Some chapters have more than one page of related information. The first page of the chapter will give you a list of additional pages to which you can navigate. This is the Where Can I Go From Here. The links to these pages are presented as a list usually to the right or under the page title.
