Graphics - Printing

Graphics
Graphics add color and interest to a web page. Depending upon the speed of your internet connection, graphics can take some time to load. You do not have to wait for a graphic to load to read the contents of a page. Go ahead and read the text and then come back to see the graphic.

After a graphic is displayed on the screen, you can move to another page and then come back to the graphic page. You will notice the graphic displays quickly. This is because your computer stored a copy of the graphic. If you select another page before the graphic loads completely, the load will be interrupted.

Turn Off Graphics
If you are using a very slow system, you may want to turn off graphics altogether. You do this in your own browser and it turns off graphics for all pages. Instructions vary with the version of the browser you are using. Check the documentation that comes with the browser. Here are the instructions for the latest versions.

IE or MicroSoft Explorer - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - Browsing - Multimedia - uncheck - Show Pictures.

NetScape - Edit - Preferences - Advanced - in right hand box uncheck - Automatically Load Images

Printing Pages
Sometimes you will want to print a page of directions or a list of birds. You do not need to print the navigation pane on the left of each page or the pictures. New England Seabirds often gives you a Printer Friendly version of the page. Open this page and follow these steps to send the page to the printer.

  1. Select File - Print from the menu at the top of your browser window.
  2. Select to print All pages and the number of copies you want.
  3. After you finish printing, close the new browser window to return to reading New England Seabirds.
