Pelagic birding usually means going to sea on a boat. At sea the birds are concentrated over shallow water banks and the edges of deep canyons. This section describes some of the most popular offshore areas.

Winter in New England makes going to sea difficult and looking for pelagic birds from land is very popular. The best seawatch locations are on cliffs that look out over the ocean. These areas may produce more results after certain weather conditions. Dress warmly and mount your telescope on as sturdy a tripod as possible.

Locations are indexed by state. The webmaster takes no part in arguments about to which state the various offshore areas belong. Offshore locations are listed by the state from which you are most likely to depart and some (Cashes Ledge) are listed for two states.
